Ok.. 2 questions..
I see these old 39s can go for some cash. . That said. .
I am bidding for a 39A 1950 era.. it needs a bolt guess it needs some TLC too.. that said lol.....
How. Hard will it be to fit a new bolt? .. how do you heads pace this gun?... if the gun is in fair condition. .should I just restore it.. how much value lost. ..

My buddy has one that has rust on barrel. . Same question on rebluING the barrel. . SHOULD I Just Clean Up THE Rust AND Leave It OR Since It Has Rust Guess CONDTION has been compromised. .
Advice????

I've replaced the bolt on numerous Marlin .22 lever actions, and they always seem to be just fine for headspacing. Not the same as most CF levers, as they can be hit or miss on headspace.
As for whether it should be restored, or what it might need; it's tough to say without pictures. I have no way of knowing what it looks like now? But a restoration wont hurt it if it's looking pretty tired. Unless that restoration is not done properly. A nice correct restoration is much better than a ugly gun.

I am working on a 39M Article II. I need to replace the medallion. How do I remove it without damaging the gun.

CarolinaPirate;

Most adhesives release by either heat or chemically. Barrow your wife's iron and set it on a high heat setting then place it on the medallion. It should soften the adhesive enough to get it off.
If that does not work, you might try your wife's nail polish remover (acetone) but be careful not to get it on the wood. It will remove wood finish. If the medallion is painted, the acetone will remove paint as well, so be very careful.

A Weller type soldering gun works well also to apply heat directly to things you want to loosen up. I use mine to melt epoxy, and also to apply heat to stuck screws before I put a drop of penetrant on them. Helps suck the penetrant in, and loosen screws.

I am working on a model 39 Article II. The gun is from an estate that is being evaluated. The medallion is damaged even though the rest of the gun is at least 90%. I have a new medallion but I do not know how to remove the old one safely. Any ideas?
