Installing 1947 39A Outer Magazine Tube
Installing 1947 39A Outer Magazine Tube
I recently purchased a 1947 39-A that was in very good shape. In the process of refinshing the wood I found it very difficult to install the outer magazine tube since the forearm has to be in place first and you can't see the hole in the receiver to align the tube. So what I did was to first install the forearm and magazine tube until the tube was touching the front of the receiver. Then I took a piece of 1/4 dowel, inserted it into the cartridge feed hole from the receiver side, and wiggled (technical term ) the dowel to align the magazine tube. It literally took all of 5 seconds to get the tube aligned with the hole. I hope this helps someone else to avoid some frustration.
