Trying to ID serial number date of manufacture ...
My usual sources are yielding no help ... says the serial number is out of range ...
Marlin 1893 ... 30/30 ... octagon barrel ... Serial number • 456245
Any help would be appreciated ... trying to help out a forum member on another forum ...

That is about the highest serial number observed on a Marlin Firearms manufactured rifle. That will put it in the late ownership of the Marlin family owned business which changed hands in 1916. The Marlin family sold the business in December of 1915, so that should put this rifle at best in the late 1915 time frame as an estimate for date of manufacture.
If I remember correctly, Brophy had recorded a number a little higher. I would need to check those records as I have copies of his notes on serial numbers.
