Marlin 1893 production date?

Post by Old Man »

I have a marlin 30-30 model 1893 with a round barrel serial # D121.
It was left to me after my father in law passed.
I’m considering having it professionally restored, the gun was left in a damp location at some point before I received it but I think with some TLC it can be salvaged.
I would like to know the year it was manufactured and other than Brophy’s Book is there any information on disambaly and assembly of this lever action.

Old Man;

Where is that serial number located? Is it up near the forearm, or back, under the lever? Location determines when your gun was made.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

The serial number is on the bottom near the lever.

Old Man;

With the serial number near the lever, a "D" prefix gun will be a later gun, made sometime in the mid-1920's. Understand that there are little or no records after 1906, so from observations of other serial numbers,this is about as close as we can get.

Thank you, It seem like there is little to no information on this gun. Someone did tell me that new this gun might have sold for $17.00 with a round barrel and if you wanted to upgrade to the octagon barrel it costs a dollar moar. I’m not sure if that’s correct but don’t you wish gun prices were like that in todays market!
