Drew;

A Marlin Levermatic rifle really cannot have a single "A" prefix serial number. It should have a double "A" or "AA" prefix to the serial number.
That would indicate that rifle was made in 1965. A Marlin with a single "A" serial number of more recent production would have been made in 1939, and the Levermatic did not come out until 1955.
Your rifle may have been returned to the factory after 1968 and was serialized then. Most Levermatic's were not serialized until after 1968 because of the Gun Control Act of 1968 demanded all gun be serialized. Serialization was an extra step in manufacturing the gun and required record keeping, and as Marlin made the Levermatic as an inexpensive rifle, they did not serialize them until after 1968 to save money on production costs.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
