I just recently came across a Model 93 smokeless metal Serial number starts with A Its in fair condition . Just looking for some back ground and possible value

Is this a Model 1893, or a Model '93? With the "A" prefix it can make a difference. Where is the serial number located? Up near the forearm or back, under the lever?
