After my stepdad passed, I inherited his model 93 30-30 with s/n 2855. I tried contacting Marlin Corp for manufacturing date and got the “records burned in fire” response. Any idea what decade it was produced? Also, any thoughts on restoring vs antique looks to rifle? I prefer the vintage looks with a little surface rust.
Thanks in advance.

Need to know the location of the serial number? Under lever or under receiver by the forearm wood? Also the rollstamp info on the barrel.
I like original guns with honest wear, but not a fan of rust or rust pitting. I'd have to see pictures before I could say if it's a candidate to restore. I will say that one shouldn't restore an old gun unless they're prepared to do it exactly like it was when new. Doing it wrong only makes a mess of things.

Just got it back from gunsmith who replaced firing pin and did a cleaning job on it. Looks a lot better.
Don’t know how to post pics so thanks for your help

Sounds like a 1920's Marlin. Does it by chance have a "bullseye" in the bottom of the buttstock about 2.5" forward of the buttplate?

That narrows is down further, and it should date to some time around the 1923-1926 era I'd guess.

Re: Marlin 93 30-30 inherited
I would assume based upon the serial number that its a carbine, by any chance does it have a saddle ring?
and does it have a star marking...?
thanks

Maybe a carbine, but a lot of "short rifles" made during that time frame also. I've owned several 20" short rifles from the 1920's era.
