Using Rust Remover on Nickel plated receiver

Post by palabra »

I have a nickel plated receiver which has some plating loss on the top. Where the loss occurred, rust has moved in. I have some Birches Rust and Bluing remover that I can remove the rust with. I don't want to effect any of the plating adjacent to the rust. Does anyone know if Rust remover will effect the nickel plating at all? If so, what other means can I remove the rust without effecting the plating. Thanks.

Don't know if rust remover will hurt the nickel, but I'd use Flitz Metal Polish. It works on bare metal, chrome, nickel, stainless, etc., and will remove the rust gently when applied with a rag. Just rub it in good and then buff with a clean cloth. It will make that nickel look great too!

Jerry;

I use Flitz all the time. On small areas, I apply with a cotton swab. You can rub pretty hard with a cotton swab and not hurt anything. Vall is right, it does make the nickel shine!
Definitely stay away from the blue and rust remover. The Flitz will not remove any pits, nor will anything else, but it will make the surface look better with a little elbow grease and not hurt anything else that you do not want to harm.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
