Model 1881

Post by hdxbones »

Hi all, new member here with an 1881 question. I have a .40 cal short barrel and magazine 1881, and would like to find out if it left the factory like this, or if it has been altered. Is there a place to look up the serial number? Thanks.

Hdxbones;

There is no place for the public to look up individual serial numbers. The Association has a copy of the original factory records (same records that the Cody Museum has) and can provide the information upon request. Members of the Association can get the full information as listed in the records, and non-members will get the configuration and an approximate ship date.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

Hdxbones;

As Secretary of the Association, I am the one with the factory records.

Yes, so long as the serial number is above 4,096. There is almost nothing below that number.

GNG;

Information on 14374 is as follows:

Model 1881 .40-60 caliber 28 inch octagon barrel Shipped: late 1886

That is all that is listed for that number.
