model 92 stumped??

Post by alot of marlins »

just pick up mod 92 ser.# 46412 octagon 24 in., has a tube mag I have marlin 22,25-20, 32 special 30 30

22 drops straight through barrel 25-20 will not fit in tube, 32 auto will not fit in tube, it lines up with the breech bolt taken apart

no stamp on barrel

pat date nov 19 1878, april 2 1889 aug, 12 1890 mar. 1st 1892

if the factory refig. pin[below] then 32 auto should fit in tube

[The Model 1892/92 in .32 caliber had another interesting feature. It shipped from the factory with a second firing pin so that the gun could be reconfigured to shoot .32 caliber centerfire ammunition. Marlin literature that came with the gun indicated the change could be made without tools so anyone could change the firing pin, making the rifle capable of using centerfire instead of rimfire ammunition. The second pin came in a small bag attached to the lever of the gun.]

Alot of marlins;

A bit of a quandary here.......serial number given is a Model 1889 in .38-40 caliber. The barrel markings are for either a 2nd variation Model 1891 or a Model 1892/'92 and the Model 1897/'97. The Model 1891 and 1892 in .32 caliber is not the .32 Auto, it is the .32 Colt caliber, that was made in either rim or center fire cartridges. They both (rim & center fire) were made in short, long and long rifle lengths. And yes, both the 1891 and 192 were shipped with two firing pins to shoot either rim or center fire cartridges, simply by changing the firing pin. It is easy to do, simply unscrew the sideplate screw, remove the sideplate, open the lever slightly and lift out the breech bolt and change the firing pin and replace.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

so the .32 Colt caliber should fit in and down the tube, rim or center? would you pick the center fire pin [missing pin and stock] $20 purchase

is this a parts gun from factory or elsewhere, it does not look like it was ever taken apart

thank you
