I have purchased a model 43, I will probably have it checked out by a gunsmith before firing.
I have noticed that after cycling the pump action and pulling the trigger to simulate firing, the pump will not rack to eject. The release must be pushed to open the action.
Is this normal operation? Is there any information which I could provide gunsmith with in regards to this?
Thank you for passing on any knowledge.

Yes, that is the normal action for a Marlin pump action shotgun. It is what is called a "hang fire safety" release. If the gun is fired, the recoil will set the safety off and the action can be opened normally. But if the gun is not fired (or a defective shell) and you try to open the action, you must release the safety manually. The safety keeps you from opening the action to quickly on a defective shell just in case of a hang fire.
I hope this helps.

Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
