Marlin 1893 Gold, I need help !

Post by charlesmorin00 »

Hi everybody,

Since 3 years, I am searched information about my marlin 1893 gold plated. I don't know if it's a true gold or simply brass plated. My marlin was produced in 1900 (based on the serial number) and it was in incredible good condition (like a new). I want know if someone have any information about my model.

I wait your comments !
Thanks

Charles;

Marlin did offer gold plating ( a gold wash) on their guns. Would need to see photos of the gun in question in order to determine if it is an original gold wash gun or an aftermarket plating. Most gold wash guns I have encountered over the years were also factory engraved. A check of the factory records might help, but not likely as VERY FEW records indicate any type of plating present for a particular serial number.

Charles;

I really hope you do not have to much money in your Marlin Model 1893. It is a complete refinish job, and not all that good either. The barrel was remarked, and incorrectly at that. The blue is the wrong blue as used on Marlins of the period. The gold plate is plating and not a gold wash as used of the period. The wood appears to be replacement as well. The forearm should be flush with the receiver instead of standing proud as it does on your rifle. The shape of the comb is incorrect, too. Overall, it is not a good collectors item. You can either hang it on the wall or use it as a shooter as you will not harm the collector value as it is no longer in the collector market.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that is why you came here looking for answers to your questions.

Regnier - I replied to one of your other older posts about an 1881 .40-60 w/ set trigger, 28" octagon barrel. If you can provide any info, let me know. I provided the SN in that post.
