Auction purchase

Post by Dmacisu »

Hello. New to the forum. I've owned a modern Marlin 30-30 for a while and I love it. I purchased a model 1894 .44 carbine yesterday at an auction and I don't know much about it. It's serial number 120328. Steel moon-shaped butt plate, says "Marlin Safety" on top of the receiver and has a steel cap on the end of the forearm.

The wood is in great shape; the action seems like it's flawless (although I haven't shot it yet) and the bluing is worn grey, but no scratches or rust. No octagon barrel.

This will be one I pass along to my kids one day, but I was curious as to value (can't find any old ones on gunsamerica or gunbroker) and/or history of the rifle. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

The serial number of 120xxx would put your Marlin at around 1895. Values depend greatly on condition, features, etc. so hard to say what it's worth without seeing it.
Marlin lever actions 1870's-WWI, Ballards, and single shot rifles!
