The gun belongs to my father in law. It was his fathers before him. Very good condition. No rust or scratches.

Just trying to get a value and what I’ve seen so far is all over the board. The gun isn’t for sale right now, and if he decides to sell I will likely buy it but I want to give him a fair price.

The serial number is either E9924 or F9924

How does one determine the age of a 39-A, I have one since my teenage years, I believe it to be about 75 years old, SN G-7312?

8250;

The letter "G" is the serial number prefix that determines the year your Marlin Model 39-A was produced. That prefix indicates that your rifle was made in 1950. That means that your 39-A has the early, Ballard style rifling instead of the later, patented Micro-Groove rifling found on the majority of Model 39-A rifles.
