Date 39A Golden Mountie

Post by Quick69 »

I have searched for hours and can't seem to find out the exact year my gun was made.
The serial # is S 18599

What year was the "S" code used?

This rifle was my Grandfathers.. My father gave it to me a few years ago.

Thanks for any help..

Scot;

Your gun with a "C" serial number prefix cannot be a Mountie, as the "C" prefix indicates your gun was made in 1946. Problem is, the 39-A Mountie did not come out until 1953 with a letter "K" prefix and a 24 inch barrel which was later changed to a 20 inch barrel.
Does your gun have a straight grip stock, or is is a pistol grip stock? What you may have is a 39-A rifle (with pistol grip stock) made in 1946 that has had the barrel changed out to a shorter, 20 inch Mountie barrel.
As far as not working, do you put the hammer at full cock when you put the two halves back together? The hammer must be at full cock when it is re-assembled. That is about the only thing I can think of right now, so try that first........
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

This gun belongs to my son-in-law. The stack is missing. The firing pin is missing. This is all I know is missing. I am trying to fix and find parts. The C is what is on the #. It has a 20 inch barrel is stamped Marlin Golden 39A Mountie . Thanks
