Poppachuck;

A couple of questions to help narrow down the production date......where exactly is the serial number located, up near the forearm, on the bottom of the receiver, or is it back, under the lever?
You said it is a Model 1893. Is this the way it is marked, or is it marked Marlin Model '93?
This will help narrow down the date of production a little. There are no records for any of the letter prefix serial number guns, so it will be a range of dates.
Looking forward to your reply.........

the # is on the forstock side and its stamped MoDel 1893 on the tang end behind the hammer-- special smokeless steel is on the barrel by the back site -- on the barrel in front of the rear site is two lines of- marlin firearms co. new haven ct. u.s.a.- then 2nd line- patented oct.111887april 21889august11893. on top of the barrel just in front of the receiver is 32-40 on the top of the receiver is Marlin safety

Poppachuck:

This is one of the Marlin Model 1893's assembled during WW I by either the Marlin Arms Corporation of the Marlin-Rockwell Corporation. These guns were assembeled from parts on hand to keep employees busy beteen the war contracts for machine guns. Either company needed to keep the employees busy and offered sporting arms to the public. They could not take the time to make new parts, so they used parts that were on hand when the company changed hands in 1916. So, your gun would have been made sometime between 1916 and 1921. Guns made after 1921 were marked Marlin Model '93, and had the serial number moved back under the lever.
I hope this helps.

Are you positive you've read that serial number right? If there's any doubt pull the buttstock and check the serial number on the top left side of the tang. Something doesn't seem quite right, even for a post WWI gun.
