Marlin 40 Cal

I have a Marlin 40 Call. (Maybe 40/60?) smooth bore ser #15944, I believe the patent date is 1840. Im trying to find out what its worth, where can I go to find out?

Here is as good a place as any, but any information you feel kindly disposed to post will be of immense help.

In any value discussion, the prime topic will be CONDITION. Given that, some pics would get you the information you want much more quickly.

Luis;

The serial number you listed is not one of the "shotgun" or "not rifled" Model 1881's listed in the factory records. You may want to remove the forearm to see if the barrel serial number matches the receiver serial number.
Otherwise, it may be either a shot out .40-60 rifle, or someone has bored it out to shoot shot in it, affecting the overall value.
