I inherited a Marlin Ballard recently which I want to now pass to my son. It belonged to my Great Grandfather and I didn't know that it existed until it was given to me by a great aunt. I think it is a #6 off-hand and looks like a 35-55... anyway it's a large caliber. The serial number in all places I can find one is 3999. I would like to find out if there is a way to know when the rifle was made. I want to put together some info to give to my son about the rifle. We were told that it was used as a saddle rifle by my great grandfather.
