Marlin Golden 39-A

I am the owner of a Marlin Lever Action .22 caliber rifle called a Golden 39-A. It was owned by my father and his father before him. Is there a serial number on the gun that I can not find to tell me how old the gun is and if there is, where might I learn what kind of replacement or insurance value there is assicaiated with this gun?

serial number is on the lower tang, under the lever (it is also inside the opened halves of the receiver, but maybe only the latter digits)
