Marlin 1893 re-barrel

Post by jbcoopjr »

I have a Marlin 1893 30-30 serial number 222325 that I got from my grandfather 50years ago. It had a very dark bore and no finish whatsoever. In the 1960s and 1970s I worked as a gunsmith and went completely through the gun, replacing damaged parts and I blued the entire gun. The quality and fit is superb. It is amazingly tight and solid. Obviously it is not a collector’s piece anymore but would be a fantastic levergun if it only had a decent barrel. Is there a more modern Marlin model barrel that would be the correct dimensions and thread that could be installed in my 1893? I am well aware of headspace and other issues that must be properly addressed. My barrel measures 20 1/8” long (total). The diameters (measured from the muzzle) are: muzzle: 0.625”, 0.8” at front of barrel band: 0.638”, 12.2” at front of stock band: 0.762”, 19.4” in front of receiver: .910”.
