1954 Marlin 39A 24'' barrel marked WM?

Post by KevnJr »

My dad just bought a 1954 Marlin 39a without really knowing much about them. We have been doing some looking online to try to find some answers to our questions.

The serial number is L5380 - All I found out from that is its a 1954

We measured the barrel and its 24" long. I read somewhere that the 24" barrels are uncommon. Dont know for sure.

There is a small WM with a curved line under it stamped on top of the barrel towards the back of the barrel. I couldnt find anything about what it could be.

I am fairly certain its not a mountie. It has the pistol grip stock.

Any help with my questions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :D

1954 would be correct for a Model 39-A with an L serial number prefix. The mark you see at the rear of the barrel should be the Marlin proof mark and is actually a JM in an oval. It may be an incomplete stamping that looks the way it does. The Model 39-A or rifle with pistol grip stock as always had a 24 inch barrel, as did it's predecessor the Model 39. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
I hope this helps.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
