I own a Marlin I found in a barn. I had to replace most of the guts to get it functioning correctly but now the gun shoots perfectly.
But I would like to put a scope on it and I have NO idea what kind of mount to use. I've seen pictures of the mount that attaches to the side, I don't have holes on the left side. I have 2 holes, about an inch apart, vertically drilled into the receiver. Then just past the rear site on the barrel there are another two holes drilled into the barrel; same distance as the ones on the receiver.
Anyone have any ideas?

It's a Marlin 81. I beleive it is very early as I have yet to see one like it.
Re: Old Marlin With two vertical hole on receiver question
daturk,
Have to admit this one has me puzzled as to what they might have had mounted on your early Model 81 ? I can so you what the scope mount on my "early" Model 80 looks like.... (http://www.pbase.com/tigweld/marlin_80_early_scope) I believe the same offset mount would have also been the choice then for your Model 81.
