Age of my Marlin 12-gauge hammer pump

Post by Charles »

My Marlin Model 21 shotgun has the numbers 99709 above the receiver. What is the approximate age?

Charles;

The Marlin Model 21, exposed hammer, pump action, straight grip, 12 gauge shotgun was only listed in the 1907 & 1908 catalogs. It was described as a Trap style gun, and in 1909, Marlin introduced a model called the "Trap Gun" which was an improved version of the Model 21 with newer features much like the Model 24 shotgun. Difference between the Model 24 and the Trap Gun was a straight grip stock vs. a pistol grip on the Model 24.
There are no records available on any Marlin shotguns with serial number above 67,000, so that is as close as we will be able to get on your Model 21 Marlin shotgun.
I hope this helps.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
