36-a-30-30 manf yr and/or value?

Post by jbug03 »

The model number is 36-a-30-30 Cal. and the serial number begins D 77. It's mounted with a 9 power simmons scope(?) I have posted a pic of it at the link below. I am thinking of selling or trading it but can't figure out the year, thus an approx. value. THNX for any help!

D prefix is 1947; your rifle was discontinued the following year with the introduction of the model 336A, changing to a round bolt being the major difference. It looks as though yours was originally a blued rifle, with all fading uniform over the rifle (earlier Model 36 rifles had case hardened receivers & levers). How is the condition of the bore? This era had ballard rifling. Unfortunately from a collector's standpoint, the tapping for the scope mounts will detract from value - unless verifiably done by the Marlin factory under a special mail order request. Nice rifle and I wish you luck with your sale!
