1951 Marlin 336A .32 Special

Post by Method17 »

Hi all,
I have had this rifle (1951 Marlin 336A .32 Win Special) since I was 12, it was passed from my grandfather to my uncle and down to me. It was my first deer rifle and I am keeping it to pass to my tike when its time.

I haven't shot in it a good while, but have taken it out when I hunt back home in upstate PA, where lugging a heavier rifle is just not fun :)

That being said, somewhere after its inception in 1951, someone drilled and tapped for a sight, but I never had one one there. It looks like one of the holes was botched, but the rest look ok.

I know I will catch *beep*, but the scope mount holes always bother me and I am considering scoping it.

What do you sages think? Leave it be on irons or go ahead and put something inexpensive on it?

Hi Method17, I like you have a 336 in .32 Spl., 1951 vintage. This rifle belonged to my father who used this gun from the time he got it in 1952 to when he died in 1995. He never missed a fall using this gun as it was made for, hunting. It is equiped with a 3 power weaver scope which I would never think about removing it. I have used this gun myself and will give it to one of my Grandkids when I pass on or let my son have it hoping that it will always stay in the family.
For your gun I would highly recommend that a scope from the same time frame as the gun be installed as I assume it was hunted that way. Have fun with a great little hunting rifle.

The middle gun is the gun my father owned and shot a lot of deer and moose with. It is also the gun that got me interested in collecting Marlins. The top gun is what my father had during the late '40s before getting the 336 with a scope.
