Does anyone know if the 39a was ever tapped on the barrel for a scope? This would have been around 1953.
The one I seen was tapped just ahead of the reciever on the sides above the stock a little ways.
Thanks
model 39a

Re: model 39a
a5shot;
In 1954, Sears, Roebuck and Comany had Marlin drill and tap the side of the barrel on the 39-A's for the Weaver "N" scope mount. It may be possible that some of the late 1953 guns were also drilled and tapped. There is a photograph of the barrel with screws in place on page 290 of Brophy's Marlin book. You can compare the one you saw to the photograph to see if the one in question is correct.
I hope this helps.

Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
