Is that a 6 digit serial number? Is so most likely made in the 1914-1915 era. Could it have been shipped in 1916? Sure. There are no records but it is believed that in 1916 the new owners started up a new serial numbering system using letters as a prefix than a number such as A1502. It is also thought that the highest serial number using the original system is slightly over 450000 and this system ended in 1915. Yes, all the lever actions were intermixed in the original serial numbering system.

Now there are a very, very few rifles/receivers with an original serial number that were assembled at a later date such as after 1921. These can be identified with one or more of the following features. The serial number located under the lever. A star* stamped by the Model 94 stamp on the upper tang. A bullseye in the bottom of the buttstock. A Marlin Firearms Corporation stamp on the barrel.
It's a chancey job and it makes a man watchfull....and a little lonely.

Thanks for the quick response.
It is a six digit serial, I don't have it here.
And you confirmed my suspicion that 1911
was a more accurate date.

I'm having trouble logging on, can you help with that?
