marlin 1893

Post by TPRLOC1801 »

Any help would be greatly appreciated ; I have a 1893 rifle in 30/30 caliber, with serial number 3597," Cody Research" advises that this rifle made prior to 1883 , however, on the 20 inch round barrel there are three patent date, Oct 11,1887,April 2,1889, and August 1,1893.---- On the barrel in Semi script is "Special Smokeless Steel" and on the top of the receiver is " MARLIN SAFETY. My question is how can the rifle be prior to 1883 when listed dates are later in time. ---please send any information to my direct email of ----laustin1801@gmail.com or call me LARRY AUSTIN, at 352-750-1979. Thanks in advace, Larry

Does the rifle actually say Model 1893 on the upper tang or does it say Model 93? What is the name Marlin used on the barrel such as Marlin Firearms Company. Is this a carbine or a rifle. Is there a bullseye in the bottom of the buttstock? Also is there a star* stamp by the Model number on the upper tang? From this we can estimate when your rifle was made.

One more question. Is the serial number located under the lever?

MODEL 93 ON UPPER TANG---, ALL METAL BUTT PLATE, No Bullseye.---- Serial number is under lever on tang.----- Marlin Firearms Co. on barrel. -----20 inch barrel would indicate a Carbine.----- It has a saddle ring----- and no star on upper tang. ,thanks, Larry

Thanks Larry for the updated information. IMHO your rifle was made sometime around 1923. This would be getting close to the end of production by the Marlin Firearms Corporation before they went out of business. Near as I can tell the production by the Marlin Firearms Corporation of the Model 93 went just over 4000 rifles and your rifle is 3597. The highest number reported so far in your serial number series is 4060. I hope this is of some help.

Hey folks, need some help. I have just aquired a Marlin 38. The wife was cleaning out her Grandparents place and brought me home a couple of rifles found in a closet. One was a 5 Diamond 760 in .270 Beautiful Shape and this Marlin 38 Also a Beautiful 85 to 95. Did some web research and found out they were only made from 1921 to 1930 but there was not much more on them. Was wondering if these things are collector items? Not to often you see a pump action .22 with a octagon barrel and a 3 digit serial number. Any info is appriciated.
