JM Marlin 1873 rimfire break barrel

Post by Jayho »

I have a 32 calibre rimfire break barrel which has a wobble in the barrel. How hard would it be to fix and straighten the barrel?

Jayho;

Usually, the top hinge is the problem. If the two "ears" of the hinge have been spread apart from years of wiggling the end of the barrel sideways, you should be able to squeeze them back closer together (very carefully as the frame is brass). If your hinge screw is not stripped out, then you should be able to tighten the screw some to take the wiggle out.
Try that and see if it helps. Good luck.....

Gunrunner;

The pin in the hinge doesnt have a spot to tighten, is it threaded? How would I get it out?

Jayho;

The top hinge has a screw to hold the barrel in place. If you do not have a screw, then you have other problems. You will need to get the pin out, and see if the screw threads are still intact in the brass frame where the screw goes into. Then you need to get a screw the correct thread and length to put back in place.
If you can, post a picture of the hinge area, (both sides) and then we can go from there.
