Are there instances of 30/30 model 1893’s ,being manufactured in 1900,without the SSS marking on the barrel?

Anybody know the process they used to attain that silky silver finish, may an ex employee or Tom ray or somebody I have to refinish mine (rusted )and want original look I would really appreciate the info.

It’s worth is probably about 150 tops and not much collector value involved in original condition so have at it make it look better,it will still be worth about 150

A good starter set is grace wooden handled screwdriver .I have them the my wife bought me a wheeler gunsmith set they goe for near $100:the grace set not sure -just checked,about $50

I don’t own one but I would take the warning to heart,I heard it before,did you have 375 cases and dies you could maybe load them to suitable pressures but consult load books ,if you get dies just get 38-55 dies and do it the right way,if you only have the one rifle you could maybe find a Lee loader...

Without looking at it I’m pretty sure it’s worth leaving it as is,it is worth more as it sets,of course,its the owners gun, but other than cleaning it ,shooting it and wiping the metal with oil and wood with a wax gently ,that’s it.some would say that too much.

I’m refinishing a 30 AS that got wet ina fire and was seized ,there was ,actually not much deep pitting but enough to reblue and need some abrasive work,I will rust blue it as that is what I do and it affects the value in this case ,not much ,it may even increase its value as rust blue is better loo...

Be sure that the rear pin,the pin that holds the rear firing pin in place is all the way up in the bolt if it’s down even a tiny a bit it will catch on the receiver edge next to the hammer slot knock it all the way up or file it flush with the bolt bottom.

I service all my own guns,I can’t possibly conceive of hiring another person to service my rifles or guns.if I need machine work or lathe work,then I consider a gunsmith or machinist.
