1881 magazine capacity
I have an 1881 45/70, recently restored. It has a 28" barrel & full-length magazine. Does anyone know how many shells the magazine holds? I've only put 2 or 3 at a time in it. By the way, it shoots GREAT!!!
Thanks!!!
Thanks!!!

Re: need new fore stock
Phil, I have a 1881 45/70 that had a broken butt stock. Wenig Gunstocks did a fabulous job matching up a butt stock with the original forestock.

Re: My 'new' 1881 45/70
Robb, one more thing that just came to mind.................the original buttstock was literally broken in half, but the forestock was OK. I think Wenig was able to match up a new piece of wood for the buttstock with the original forestock - as you see, they did a great job - you'd never know one pi...

Re: My 'new' 1881 45/70
Robb, the stock came from Wenig gunstocks. I think the price was reasonable, but I don't know exactly what the stock cost.

Re: To refurbish or not to refurbish......
Robb, for what it's worth, I was facing a similar situation. I have a family heirloom Marlin 1881. It was bought brand new in 1883 by my Great Grandfather's Cousin & eventually passed down to me. It was a mess, rusted, pitted, cracked & broken stock............I finally took a deep breath &a...

Re: H&R vs used Ruger #3
Bear, I found a GREAT deal on a Ruger #3 in 44 mag & grabbed it. My wife loves it, & for that matter, so do I. She now has her own 'cowboy gun' to go along with my old 1881 Marlin 45/70. Thanks!!!

Model 60 info
My wife just inherited her Grandfather's Model 60. It was made in 1982 - it has the 22" barrel & full-length tube magazine. It's in great shape overall - just a few little nicks & scratches here & there - but - the innards are pretty gunked up, the charging handle moves so stiffly I...

H&R vs used Ruger #3
Have any of you H&R guys ever owned a Ruger #3? I'm looking for a single shot for my wife. The two top candidates right now are the H&R 45LC Classic Carbine or a used Ruger #3. The price on used Rugers are approx twice the price of a new H&R. Do you think the Rugers are twice the gun??? ...
