Re: Marlin Model 93 Serial Numbers
Btw… if I knew how I’d post pictures. The forearm has an end-cap rather than a barrel band and the barrel is 24”. From the first three posts on this thread it seems like with 1926 being the start of the “star”, and having a C5052 serial number that 1925 is a potential year of manufacture using a “Co...

Re: Marlin Model 93 Serial Numbers
I thank you for the replies gentlemen. Yes, some conflicting characteristics make it a mystery date-range. Hard to imagine barrels marked with the ‘Corporation’ stamp would still be found that many years later - but I suppose it is possible. The Star, or lack thereof, seems to fall in the same ‘duel...

Re: Vintage Marlin 1895 (40-65) chamber question
Well, I guess no one has done a chamber cast any better than mine is. I did find out my twist was 20:1 last night - the old fashion way. Guess I'll have to go with my cast and do like MM93 says and perhaps plow it up on a printer and see if that doesn't make angles easier to project with a straight ...

Re: Vintage Marlin 1895 (40-65) chamber question
Links, outside references, publications, anything to set me on a path would help.
Would really like to develop a drawing of the chamber in some TMT software.
Tried the chambercast method but with points of reference so minute that is problematic.

Re: Vintage Marlin 1895 (40-65) chamber question
just an addendum... Best I can tell from this cast - and it's not the best cast, it is about .054 from the chamber diameter to the top of the lands. And it DOES look like it's evenly divided if you estimate the groove diameter location. The cast is not the best and the chamber has been through a few...

Re: 1895 question
Regnier, Thank you for that. Came with another question about chambers and been poking around. Just now seeing your post with the information. I appreciate your taking the effort and interesting to know mine has no records! Now I wish I knew who to turn to for "original" chamber questions....

Re: Another 1895 45-90 with woes
Not sure Sub will see this since he's resolved his issue but worth a note... On a Black Powder gun I have with no markings there is a B stamped on the underside flat under the forearm. Maybe, maybe not - worth a look.

Vintage Marlin 1895 (40-65) chamber question
In looking at my chamber cast the transition from neck to groove size appears fairly gradual. I’m wondering two things and hoping someone here has the answer since exact angles are hard to extrapolate from a chamber cast. 1). Does anyone know the exact transition angle Marlin used in these chambers....

Re: 1895 question
Be interested in what you find Bill. I was wondering if the old link that lets you plug in serial numbers would help dating these. My serial number is 167129. Folks I got it from claimed that mapped back to 1899 but I have not confirmed it yet. Sure shoots well!

Re: Ballard #2 Barrel Liner
Daryl, Per John Taylor (Taylor Machine), since I am having similar work done and asked recently: "I have a long taper throat reamer for the 38-55. The .379” liner comes with a 1 in 18 twist, the .375 has 1 in 18 and 1 in 14 available". I believe he uses TJ liners. He is located in Washingt...

Re: Ballard #5 Pacific restore or not
Steven, Hope you post your progress. I'm hoping to build one myself but have a more meager starting point, being a barrel only, so finding the receiver will be far more difficult. If you want to share progress reports send me a PM and I'll send my email. I'll be pecking away on mine as I find $$ and...

Re: Search for Ballard
I hope my son is not someday seeking the same quest. Just picked up a barrel and I'd settle for any forged action that was in decent shape. Guy never knows till he tries I suppose.
