Re: Marlin model 1889 with. 278 serial #and no safety

I agree with Regnier that Bill's book is still the bible on Marlins, especially as it relates to the lever action models. It's severely lacking in some areas I collect like Marlin Ballard rifles. But I still refer to it often. I have two copies also, and have had both copies since the book first cam...

Re: Ammo Problem with my 410 Lever Shotgun

I'm thinking maybe the modern .410 ammo you got in a high base might be fairly warm? Might try buying some .410 trap loads in 2.5" or other light loads and just one box to try before you buy too much. If lighter ammo works then you can buy a larger quantity.

There were no "1889" Marlin shotguns. Most likely it's a Model 1898 shotgun.

Re: Marlin 39A .22 Lever Action Octagon barrel

With a serial number in the 2800 range it's not one of the first made, but it would be an early one. Need more info on the gun to determine when it was made. Like the full rollstamp info on the barrel, and whether it has a bullseye in the bottom of the buttstock about 2.5" forward from the butt...

Re: Marlin Model 47 - research project

I have a Marlin 410 with serial no U1940. Passed to me in 1954 from an uncle. I believe it uses 3" shells and is in almost perfect condition. From these posts I assume it was made around 1930. Any feedback is appreciated. The Marlin 410 in the late 20's-early 30's were chambered for 2" or...

Re: Marlin Factory Letter

I have a Model 1897 that came with a factory letter dated July 10, 1985. I am wondering if that service is still available, seeing that Marlin has changed hands a couple times since the letter was produced. As for my particular 1897, the letter states that the rifle came with the 24" round bar...

Re: Information on a Marlin Rifle dated 1893

Larry is in business, and was at the CGCA show in Greeley, Co. setup and selling. His info is here in the gunsmithing section still. Hayden, Id. 208-651-6300 or marlingunscrews@gmail.com Tell him Vall sent you. Any firing pin tip longer than .050" is too long, and could cause pierced primers th...

Re: Information on a Marlin Rifle dated 1893

Model 1893 Marlins are very well made, and rare to ever have any broken parts. But sometimes if people dry fire their 1893 they can break a firing pin. Those can be found at places like Larry Osborn Marlin Parts, or Numrich Gun Parts, plus often used pins on Ebay. Ejectors usually get lost instead o...

Re: What year the gun is and what it is worth

Your 1893 should be made in 1894, but ship date could be anything after that. What it's worth is impossible to say without a better description, and very good pictures to view.

Re: 1888 Marlin 38-40 stuck firing pin

I have a remarkably good looking Marlin Model 1888 with a firing pin stuck in fired position, Soaked a month in penetrating oil. Kroil and Liquid Wrench. No luck so far. Ultra sound has be suggested. The 1888 being a rare Marlin with lousy parts availability I'm trying to be careful. Any members wi...

WTB English walnut Ballard forearm

This is a real longshot as it's going to be like winning the lottery. I bought a really nice Ballard recently that has honey colored buttstock that I love, but it's missing the forearm! Hoping someone might have a Ballard forearm laying around in similar color wood that will fit this? https://i.imgu...

Is it a prototype Marlin?

Saw this posted on Youtube, which can sometimes be sketchy depending on the person doing the video. He claims it's a rifle built by Marlin in .32-40 that is one of a kind prototype. Has anyone ever heard of this rifle, and is it really made by Marlin?

Re: Ammo sizing

To begin with I'd need some more info on what Marlin you have? Since the old and new Model 1895 Marlins were never made in .38-55, do you actually have a Model 1895? Or did you mistype the cartridge, and it's actually a Model 1895 in .38-56, not .38-55? Please double check the cartridge stamp on the...

No offense, but as wonderful as this gorgeous rifle is, I suspect it might not reach a six figure reserve.
