Windage adj. front sight insets?

Hello, I was wondering where I might find original sight inserts for a Ballard windage adj. front globe sight? In the past, I have had Distant Thunder burn out a set, but thought I would try to find originals first. Thanks!

Almost There...

Hello, everyone. The only thing I am waiting on now before I can get the little Ballard No. 3 in .25-25 Stevens shooting is cases. I have an original Ideal No. 3 dbl. adjustable chamber nickled tong tool, as well as an RCBS 3 die set in .25-25. I have cast up various weight bullets from Ideal moulds...

Refinish or not?

Hello everyone. I would like the experianced collectors opinion on refinishing original Ballards..or other antiques for that matter. I have a nice Ballard No. 3 that has most of the finish remaining on the barrel. About 6" back from muzzle, on top flat, there is a small 1"long and maybe 5/...

Re: Black Powder Only?

Hello, JimRowe. I re-read your post, and realized I didn't answer your question on whether the action on the old Ballard had been re-cased? No, the case colors are faded to nearly silver..& it hasn't been re-cased. When you say you wouldn't use black in such a small case, does the fact that it i...

Re: Black Powder Only?

Hello, everyone. Thank you JimRowe on your informative post. I spoke with Paul Shuttleworth of CPA Corp. He said the Ballard cast action was more like a cast steel, than the oft-quoted cast iron. Further, he said the cast Ballard action was stronger than the Stevens 44. I have seen some guys use som...

Re: Black Powder Only?

Hello, JimRowe. Yes the original .22 bore was re-bored /chambered to .25-25 many many years ago, professional job. Nice and tight action, mint bore. I have used light charges of smokeless in old single-shots & know how to be careful..I wonder if I should first find an accurate load with say FFFG...

Black Powder Only?

Hello, Concerning that No. 3 in .25-25. Since this is a cast action..would you recommend black powder only in this? I don't look forward to the mess in this little bore...but I sure dont want to do any damage to the gun...or myself! Thank you.

Re: Ballard forend tip repair?

Hello, and thanks for reply Regnier. Yes, there is a very small piece of wood missing at very edge of forend tip also..my main concern was with the tip itself..Is this horn? or Ebony? this is where the largest part is missing. A professional stock maker I know can do wonders with wood..some repairs ...

Restore or not?

Hello, Years ago..by golly it's been 30..man where do the years go? I purchased a Marlin 92' gun is in fine condition..checkered pistol grip, nice figure in wood. metal starting to turn. I had always been thinking of having it re-lined & re-cased by Turnbull. The bore is dark, but rifling is pre...

Re: 32-40 cast receivers

Hello, I asked the fellows over on the ASSRA forum about this cast iron business..I have always had doubts about the use of "regular" cast iron on a firearm produced by a major American firearms corporation. This stuff is fine for plows and toy cap guns..The answer was as I expected...It i...

Ballard No. 3 Reciever Top?

Hello, what is the time period of flat top recievers on this model? I have come across a #6XXX with flat top, were only the early ones made this way? Thanks.
