Brophy's book
completely off topic maybe but I ordered the Marlin firearms book by William Brophy. said it was used but in excellent condition. it looks like it's never been opened but the pictures seem dark, and sometimes fuzzy kind of like they were done on a scanner. Also, I cannot find these in-depth producti...

Yet another serial number/date question.
I found a very nice saddle ring carbine, but not so nicely priced with the description "Marlin Firearms 93 .30-30 caliber carbine. Model 1893 saddle ring carbine. Serial # 3183". The serial number is under the lever. Could this be made around the end of WW1, say between 1918 and about 1920...

Model 1893 stock repair
I've seen a couple of 1893's with a flat head screw through the butt stock right behind the receiver. They all appear to be very old "repairs". Is this common? The stocks on these guns seem to be in good condition with no visible cracks.

Marlin Model 93 manufacture date
I know that this is probably a sore subject, but how do I determine the manufacture date if the recorded serial numbers stop in 1906? I am purchasing a model 93 in very good condition with a serial number of 425,754. The seller states that it was manufactured "circa 1906". would that be ac...
