i have recently acquire a Marlin lever action rifle. It has a 27 1/2 inch octagon barrel. Serial number is 266495. I know very little about guns and was wondering how old it is and approximate value.

Your Marlin is a 1903. I have a 1905 model 1893. If you go to the Cody Firearms museum,

they can provide a factory letter for your gun.Costs about $75 but makes your gun worth a little more to have the letter.
