JUST ACQUIRED A MARLIN 44 THAT LOOKS TO BE WELL TAKEN CARE OF BUT THE SLIDE WILL NOT CYCLE AFTER YOU PULL THE TRIGGER IN ORDER TO RELOAD AND RE-COCK .
IF YOU PRESS THE SLIDE RELEASE BUTTON IT WILL CYCLE AS IT SHOULD.
THIS CHECK WAS DONE WHILE DRY FIRING ONLY.
ANY ANSWER AS TO WANT MAY BE THE PROBLEM HERE?
THANKS
MARLIN 44 PROBLEM NEED HELP

Since you do not indicate the shotgun appears well-worn, one possible solution might be a good cleaning. It sounds like the firing pin or another bolt part is not moving enough to release the action. Sometimes grease & accumulated crud will impair movement of small parts.
A thorough cleaning has helped me in similar situations on other slide-action Marlins.
In any case, it's always well to try the simplest remedy first. SW

I am really not an expert - distinguished or otherwise!!
Re: MARLIN 44 PROBLEM NEED HELP
I think the problem is that you are dry cycling the gun. I have a model 43 that acts the same way on dry firing. It also sometimes needs the slide to be pulled back (toward butt) a slight amount after locking up or it won't fire.CARSNGUNS wrote:JUST ACQUIRED A MARLIN 44 THAT LOOKS TO BE WELL TAKEN CARE OF BUT THE SLIDE WILL NOT CYCLE AFTER YOU PULL THE TRIGGER IN ORDER TO RELOAD AND RE-COCK .
