Marlin shotgun model no. 24-G, any info? value?
I have a Marlin shotgun with the latest patent date of 1909. The serial number is A20017, model reads 24-G. Would it be safe to fire? If so, what kind of shells should I use? Any information on the details and/or value of this gun would be appreciated.

The Marlin Model 24-G is an improved version of the Model 24. The "G" suffix indicated that this is a later version that probably had the "hang fire safety release" moved down by the trigger guard, instead of up near the hammer on the right side of the frame. If one were to order parts for their shotgun from Marlin when this gun was made, the "G" suffix would have had to be included to get the right parts. This change happened around 1913.
The Marlin Model 24 was made from 1908 to 1917. It is a takedown action with a pistol grip stock. The Model 24 was made in 4 grades. The "A" or standard grade, the better, "B" grade that had checkered stocks. The "C" grade that had fancy walnut, checkered stocks with factory engraved receiver, and the best, "D" grade that had Circaussian walnut, fancy checked stocks with better engraving and gold plated screws and trigger.
I hope this helps.
