Hi Everyone,
I have just acquired a Model 92 rifle serial #436819 in 32 caliber. It came with both firing pins and is in very nice condition. I'd like to know year of manufacture if possible.
I also have read that this rifle will only fire 32 long Colt cartridges, not S/W. I purchased a few boxes of 32 Colt New Police but these will not fit into the slot in the tube magazine. Should I be looking for a different version of the Colt cartridge?
I have uploaded a picture of the box I bought to Google Photo's. Hope the link below works!

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I think you want .32-20. Same case as the .25-20 Winchester.

Re: Marlin Model 92 Value & Ammo Questions
Thanks for this link. I didn't know they would be so expensive. Is this the only ammo I can use?
Also any idea of manufacture date for this rifle?

Re: Marlin Model 92 Value & Ammo Questions
Marlinowner1957;
The Model 1892 was made in .32 Colt caliber. The .32 Colt New Police is a different cartridge. The .32-20 is a center-fire cartridge and it totally different that the .32 Colt caliber cartridge. The .32-20 is more of a bottle shaped cartridge whereas the .32 Colt is shorter and a straight wall cartridge.
With a serial number in the 438000 range, your Marlin Model '92 would have been made about 1913.

Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

Thanks for the clarification. Any pictures of the ammo boxes I should be looking for? Seems like these cartridges are gonna be very difficult to find.

Re: Marlin Model 92 Value & Ammo Questions
Boxes will be marked either ".32 Long Colt", ".32 Short Colt", or just ".32 Long" Not .32 S&W Long.
Tough ammo to find these days, but it does occasionally show up at gun shows. You wont usually find this at gun stores, or sporting goods. If you reload there is a fella who sells .32 S&W brass he forms down to .32 Long and you can load your own once you buy dies and correct heeled bullets.

Re: Marlin Model 92 Value & Ammo Questions
Thank you for all this information. I'll keep looking at gun shows for the ammo. I guess I'll have to sell the 5 boxes of 32 S&W I bought to be able to afford 1 box of the Colt ammo.
