I am trying to find out about a lever action .22 rifle including model, potential year and value. It is beautifully engraved, lever action and has an octangle barrel. Chrome lever, hammer and stock ring. Very nice stock and fore stock. I think its a 1950 or 1960's first in series 39A but not exactly sure. The following inscriptions:
Pat D Nov. 19, 1873 April 2, 1889 Aug 12, 1890 Mar 1 1892
22 S-L&L-R
Serial is by stock and is A2843
There is no model name or number any where on the gun.
I have pictures but don't know how to post them on this site.

Re: Marlin 39A .22 Rifle
Willcravens;
With the patent dates, octagon barrel and serial number provided, this is not a Model 39-A. It will be either a Model '92 or Model '97. There should be a model marking on the upper tang, behind the hammer. The "A" serial number prefix would tend to indicate that this was made about 1916. If original, the plating will be nickel or possibly silver.

Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
