Marbles peep sight for Marlin 1936

Post by droptine9 »

Hi, I have a Marlin 1936 and a 36 both with what I think are factory drilled holes for a tang peep. They are wide apart, if I remember about 1.25 center to center. I see Marbles peep sights marked m36, but have smaller spacing for the holes. Can anyone steer me in what is correct??
I don't want to purchase the wrong sight for these guns.
Thanks :? :?

From "Old Gunsights, A Collector's Guide, 1850-1965"

Marble's Flexible Rear (Tang) Sight, Lyman NO 1, 2, 52, 103. Are the Optional sights from the time period. I would go to Marble's web site to get more info on them as I know there are replacement models, modern. Just have no idea of the No.s.

They're actually 1.125" apart or 1 1/8".
Any old Lyman with a code J or JA will work. Also old Marbles with code M4 or M5 will work.

Marlin Model 1936/36 tang sight

Post by Don Anderson »

Droptine9:

Marlinman is correct on the tang sight that will fit the holes that are drilled in the upper tang of the Model 1936/36. Although Marbless advertised their tang sight for the Model1936/36, the holes do not line up.

Thanks for the info. I see many Marbles M36 or 36 stamped peep sights on auction, but I can see that the holes are too close together. I will keep looking for the ones you mentioned. I don't want to drill any "new" holes on thes guns.
As always, I appreciate this site, and your willingness to share your knowledge.

I remember the first Marbles tang sight I found marked for the M36 Marlin, which was NIB! I was so happy to find it, and 20 years ago it was a bargain (I thought) at $25! Boy was I surprised to see the 1" hole spacing! Ahh... to be young and foolish again! Not.
