Marlin 32 Evaluation

Post by bennettr »

Does anybody know what an old Marlin 32 Serial# 416300 is worth? I have both rim and center fire pins as well as the original cleaning rod.
I'm new to this site and not quite sure how to post a picture of it. Maybe the mods can help me out?

Could you possibly elaborate on what you have? Is this a Marlin lever action rifle? Also curious about the "original cleaning rod", as I'm unaware of Marlin selling guns (other than Ballard rifles) with a cleaning rod?
Marlin lever actions 1870's-WWI, Ballards, and single shot rifles!

Well, no help on posting and image from the mods. I've been waiting patiently!
Next question: I'm trying to find ammo to shoot. I've been told not to shoot model ammo because it too powerful. I had someone suggest Winchester Super X 32 Short Colt. Ideas?

Bennettr;

To post pictures, go to the NO LONGER GUEST QUESTIONS section, scroll down to a post titled "Old Marlin in New Zealand" and look for the response by Road King on how to post pictures. He gives very good instructions on the way to post pictures.
Sounds like you have a Marlin Model 1892or '92 in .32 Colt caliber. It was made to shoot either rim or center fire cartridges simply by changing the firing pin. It could also shoot the short, long and long rifles size cartridges, interchangeably. These guns were black powder guns, so modern ammunition could be to much pressure wise. Using shorts might be okay, just check the listed pressures against black powder pressures.
Good luck.......
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

Thanks for the response. I already tried to post a pic above to no avail. I checked it out and I'm not a subscriber to photo bucket. It shouldn't be that hard to post a pic or two.
All you need is a post a picture link and done. Thanks anyway.....

Regainer, The FAQ's say the administrator must approve attachments. Is there anyway I can be approved to post a picture or to of my Marlin?

Thanks, to Road King for posting my pictures.

I'm still interested in any evaluation that anyone can provide. Insurance or resale.
I'm also looking for ammo for it. I've had folks recommend Winchester Super X Colt 32 shorts
but I don't have the technical specs (ballistics) to compare the original Remington Kleanbore 32 rimfire specs.

Richard, I think that for evaluation of your rifle I suggest that you search some the gun selling sites on the internet to see what recent sales have been for Marlin Model 1892 rifles in the condition your gun is. Gunbroker.com, GunInternation.com are couple to check. Also some of the bigger auction houses like RockIslandAuctions.com, www.jamesdjulia.com . some dealers often have Marlins offered for sale like. Www.collectorsfirearms.com and www.merzantiques.com
I am sure someone on this site can help with ammo for this gun. There are members that can advise better then me as to what they are using for modern center fire cartridges. Good luck.
