MArlin Rifle

Post by Tmeyers »

I have a Marlin Rifle that I am possibly looking to sell and need some help identifying it. It is a Marlin Pump action rifle. It has a few dates on it: Aug 12, 1890. Mar 1, '92. June 8, '97. Nov 29, 1904. It has a hexagon Barrel and reads "Special Smokeless Steel" on the barrel It has a great folding site on the handle that to this day is crystal clear.
Can ayone help?

Could you give us the Serial number with ** as the last two numbers will give us the year of manufacture, the calliber will eliminate some, and weather or not it has an exsposed hammer. Marlin made around 14 different pump actions between 1906 and 1932 or so. Several of these overlap.

Serial

I cannot find a serial number anywhere. It has an exposed Hammer on top. I heard it could possibly be a Model 25 or 27, but that is unconfirmed.

The serial number will be on the top tang and you will need to remove the stock to see it. The 'folding sight' could be a tang sight. If so, the model number will be under that.

If it's a center fire, it will most likely be a model 27 or 27S. Like Sure-shot says, there are a number of possibilities if it's a 22. SW

What caliber is it? This will be stamped on the top flat of the barrel just ahead of the receiver. The prices seem to vary widely with these. The 25rfs bring the least as ammunition is no longer available.

Also, would you mind posting the serial # with XX for the last 2 numbers? I have been working at finding the cut-off from the 27 to the 27S. SW
