MARLIN MODEL 93 IN 32 HPS CALIBER

Post by grazier »

I am new to this site and I have just started adding Marlins to my collection.I just purchased a 93 as marked on the upper tang, the ser# is 54xx and is marked 32 hps on the top of the barrel.I would like to know if this gun is correct,a ammo dealer told me that the 32 HPS was only made between 1922-1935 the ser# seems low to fall into this time frame. Also I am trying to find amunition for it because I like to shoot these old guns.Any info would be great.
Thanx

That serial number doesn't seem out of place when compared to a lower 4 digit serial # on a 93 as shown in the Brophy book. The 32 HPS is better known as 32 Win. Special, and that ammunition is widely available. If you handload ammunition, you are better off to shoot lead bullets than jacketed, as that will be easier on the old steel. SW

The .32 HPS, or .32 Win. Spl. was first introduced in the model 1893 Marlin about 1903. They were made from that time until well after the model '93 was replaced by newer models.
Marlin lever actions 1870's-WWI, Ballards, and single shot rifles!
