Help required with Marlin 1881 parts

Post by scotshot »

I have just joined this site and would be grateful for some help in finding sources for parts.
I have a Model 1881 Marlin, No. 5423. It's in 40-60, with a 28 inch barrel and double set triggers. It's in very good condition for its age but has some parts either broken or missing. The spring steel cartridge holder, on the cartridge carrier, is broken. Also the double triggers do not work, as there appears to be a part missing from behind the rear trigger. There also appears to be a fly missing from the hammer. If there was an adjustment screw, this is also missing.
The drawings I have been able to find do not show the set triggers, so I'm not sure what's missing. The drawing of the cartridge holder is also not that clear.
Does anyone know where I can obtain a cartridge holder, or knows who can make one? Also, if anyone can provide drawings or photos of the double trigger mechanism and parts, I would be most grateful. I'm in England, by the way, so finding parts, or even other Marlins, is not that easy.
There is some great information on this forum and I'm sure I'll learn a lot as I read through the old posts.
Any information anyone can provide on this rifle would be most welcome.

I am working on an 1881 40/60 model. I’m looking for carrier block spring. I think I can make one if I had more info. Such as the thickness of the spring. If I had a broken half or a scaled photo. I have pics from Numeric but the other info would more helpful. Could possibly be a source to make additional in different calibers.
Thank Tom Morocco
