How to disable / disassemble Marlin 336 RC SN:R20184

Post by armychaplain »

Greetings. I serve active duty Army as a chaplain and I own a Marlin 336R.C. It was given to me by my grandfather who has passed away. He did not leave me a manual or show me how to disasseble this weapon.

The military is moving me to Alaska and they demand I disable the weapon for transport via 3d party carrier.

Could you please provide simple instructions on how to disable / disassemble the weapon for shipment, specifically how to disassemble the weapon?

Any other information / links that would help me understand this rifle would be appreciated.

One more question... I've never hunted large game before. Since I will have a wonderful opportunity in Alaska, I plan on finding a mentor to show me the ropes. What type of game (with what type of ammunition) should I expect to be able to hunt with this particular weapon?

Blessings,

Chaplain Dan

This site has the exploded diagram for your rifle http://www.urban-armory.com/diagrams/marlin33.htm and the RC stands for regular carbine. I would put it in a hard sided gun case and then box for shipping as they are not that exspensive to ship. If you do want to take it apart you will probably need a barrel vice, part that goes in a vice so you can clamp the barrel without damaging it.
You can remove the screw through the tang and butt stock to shorten it, as that will allow removal of the butt stock. But taking it down is probably a good way to damage or lose parts in shipment. If you must disassemble it please let us know and we can go through that.

Thanks for the speedy reply! I have been asked to remove the bolt or firing pin. The packers wont take the weapon for shipment with my other house-hold goods unless the bolt or firing pin have been removed or it has otherwide been disabled. I guess they don't want anyone breaking in to my stuff in-transit and using my weapon for crime. I plan on taking the parts I remove with me in a safe.

diagram was helpful. I was able to remove the bolt and ejector. If I put the level back in and keep the bolt and ejector out, is there any danger of other parts in the weapon falling out, coming loose during shipment, or creating a hazard?

None that I can think of the ejector is the only loose piece when the bolt is out. I lost one of those by letting it drop out and it bounced into the next demension I think, never to be seen again.
