I have this Nickel Plated Marlin 39A .22 Lever Action with octagon barrel.
SN is 28xx.. yes 4 digits with no prefix.
Very very good condition.
So was this one of the first made?
Thanks!

I was wrong.. it is not a 39A.. but a 39! Made between 1921 and 1925.

With a serial number in the 2800 range it's not one of the first made, but it would be an early one. Need more info on the gun to determine when it was made. Like the full rollstamp info on the barrel, and whether it has a bullseye in the bottom of the buttstock about 2.5" forward from the buttplate.

I'll check that out when I see it later this week. A lady friend of the family owns it.

Yes.. it clearly states Model 39 on the rifle!
I suspect it was re-nickeled now due to slight smudging here and there.
It functions perfectly.
Dang.. I forgot to check for that Bullseye.. next time I'm there I'll check. I have a Winchester 94 of hers to clean now. Top eject with a Weaver K4 side mounted... thankfully it is a Post 64 and not pre...
