Date made and Model

Post by pjmds »

I have a Martin 22 rifle with a 24" octagon barrel. The serial number is 231973, if I am right, was found stamped just behind the forestock and forward of the lever/trigger. Would someone be kind and help me with as much info about which model it may be and year of manufacturing.

Pjmds;

You have a Marlin Model '97 that was shipped from the factory in New Haven, Ct. in 1901.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

The growing federal deficit = generational slavery to the national debt.

If the world was perfect.......it wouldn't be.

Hi, Regnier (gunrunner), thanks for the info. After my posting, I decided to bring the rifle to a gunsmith for a deep cleaning, and he confirmed that in fact it was manufactured in 1901. He also mentioned the gun’s condition was at 98% and only the stock and forestock showed wear, which was normal.
