Marlin 1891

Post by Troy73 »

Just picked up a Marlin 1891 pre (39a) I figured that out also that it is second variant because it's not marked on the tang but is stamped Marlin safety on top of receiver and four patent dates and Marlin fire'-arms Co on the barrel looking for info and an approximate value will never sell just trying to see how I did on it

First variations also are easy to spot as they had a side loading gate to load the magazine. 2nd variations were loaded directly into the tubular magazine. Your serial number range should be for 1892 also, unless it shipped later.
Without pictures I can't say if your like brand new finish is original, or a restoration, so no way to give a value.

A 32 1891 came up at a Georgia auction house that was advertised as an 1892, probably because of the last patent date on the barrel. Had me confused as well when I tried to get a centerfire firing pin for it. The firing pins on the 1891's are different than the 1892's. On the plus side I have a firing pin for an 1892 if I ever get the rifle.
