1894 SRC

Post by Mike Faires »

I am purchasing a 1894 SRC 38-40. Is there any data as to how many 1894 SRC were manufactured and the approximatte number of 38-40 in that configuration?

Unfortunately, the data on model 1894's is incomplete, due to the fact no records were kept after 1906. No way to tell how many were made like your's, but I can tell you that the .38-40, and .44-40 are the most commonly seen in 1894 saddlering carbines. I rarely see them in .32-20, and I don't think I've ever seen one in .25-20 either.

I have had a couple in 25-20's and several 44-40's, but no 32-20's or 38-40's so far. I have seen about one or two in 32-20 and 38-40 in the past year or so for sale, but each was drilled and tapped or reblued, or some other such mutilation, so I didn't buy them. I would really, really like to find a 38-40 SRC with an excellent bore, original condition, and original unsanded wood if possible. I don't care if the gun would be mostly patina, as long as it hadn't been fooled with. Minor stuff, like broken rear sight or firing pins and such wouldn't bug me either. I just need a good action and nice bore, but I have had no luck so far.
